Keep it safe

Back up

Your training log lives only on this device. A backup is a small file you keep somewhere safe.

The transfer code is the same backup as text. Paste it into a note, an email to yourself or a message.

Restore or move to another device

  1. On this device, save or send a backup, or copy the transfer code.
  2. Open Varde on the other device.
  3. Come to Your data there and restore below.

Restoring replaces the training log on this device.

Import from notes, a spreadsheet or a photo

Bring in a program from your notes app, a Google Sheet or Excel file, or a screenshot. You check everything before it's saved, and fix anything that was read wrong.

How to never lose your log

Add it to your home screen

iPhone: in Safari, tap ⋯ next to the address bar, then Share › Add to Home Screen. Keep Open as Web App on and tap Add.
Android: in Chrome, tap ⋮ › Add to home screen (or Install app) › Install.
On iPhone this matters: Safari can clear website data you haven't opened for 7 days. Home screen apps are kept.

Choose one main device

Your phone and computer don't sync. Log your workouts on one device (your phone at the gym), and move a backup when you switch.

Back up once a month

Save a backup file or copy the transfer code now and then. Varde reminds you after 30 days.

Avoid private browsing

Private and incognito windows forget everything when you close them.

Before you clear your browser

Clearing history or website data deletes your log. Make a backup first.

About
Varde
Workout log & progress app, made in Norway.

What it is

A varde is a stone cairn on a Norwegian mountain trail. Each one shows how far you've come. Varde does the same for your training: it shows what to do today, what to lift next, and how far you've come.

No subscription, no account and no ads.

How it works

Set up your workouts and days, or import your own program
Log sets as you train, with warm-ups and plates worked out
See what's next, with suggestions
Follow your records and trends
Look back at every session

How suggestions work

Varde uses double progression, a simple and widely used method. Each exercise has a rep range, like 8–12. Stay at the same weight and add reps. When you reach the top of the range on every set, it suggests a little more weight next time. If two sessions in a row fall below the range, it suggests a lighter day.

Suggestions are general training rules, not medical or personal coaching advice.

Privacy, and who made it

There's no account and no tracking. Your workouts never leave your device.

Varde is designed in Oslo, Norway by ScandinavianNO, a small studio making simple, useful tools for everyday life. Questions or ideas? Send a message through our Etsy shop.

Version

Import

Paste your program from a note, a message or a website. One exercise per line works best, like Bench press 3x8 135 lb. Headings like Day 1 or Push start a new workout.

Files: CSV or Excel (in Google Sheets: File › Download), or a screenshot. A sheet with a date column is added to your History. Everything is read on this device.

What's RPE?

RPE (Rate of Perceived Exertion) is how hard a set felt, from 1 to 10. The easiest way to rate it: how many more reps could you have done?

10No more reps. All out.
91 more rep left
82 more reps left
73 more reps left
6 or lessEasy, like a warm-up

It's optional. If you log it, Varde fine-tunes its suggestions: a bigger jump when your top sets felt easy (RPE 7 or less), and one more session at the same weight when you had nothing left (RPE 10). Most of your work sets should feel like RPE 7–9.
